As the medical director of CENTRAL HEALTH, I am immensely proud to celebrate National Nurse Practitioner Week from November 12th to 18th, 2023. This week, we honor the vital role of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) in our healthcare system and recognize their contributions to patient care and community health.
NPs are the backbone of our healthcare community, providing high-quality, patient-centered care across various settings. The 2023 theme, "NP Week: Recognizing Heroes in Health Care," perfectly encapsulates the dedication and expertise that NPs bring to their profession.
At CENTRAL HEALTH, we witnessed the incredible impact of our NPs, especially in expanding access to care in underserved areas and promoting health equity. This year, we joined the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and other healthcare organizations in securing NP Week proclamations, highlighting the exceptional care provided by NPs.
The proclamation highlights the critical role NPs play in our state's healthcare system, acknowledging their work in disease prevention, health education, and making smart health choices. The confidence patients have in NPs is evident, with more than 1 billion visits made annually across the country.
Key statistics about NPs that we celebrate include their prescriptive privileges in all 50 states, serving a median age of 46 years, and an impressive 88% certified in primary care. This showcases the diverse and significant contributions NPs make in healthcare.
In preparation for next year, let's mark our calendars for National NP Week from November 10-16, 2024. Let's continue to support and advocate for the invaluable work of Nurse Practitioners in our communities.
