Happy New Year from Central Health!

As we embark on a brand new year, there's an air of excitement at Central Health! We are thrilled to share upcoming expansions and new services designed to enhance your healthcare experience. But first, let me share a story from our clinic today that serves as an important reminder for all our surfing enthusiasts.

A Common Surfing Hazard: Coral Reef Injuries

This morning, I treated a patient who had an unfortunate encounter with a coral reef while surfing. This is not uncommon in our beautiful Hawaiian waters, and it serves as a crucial reminder about the importance of safety while embracing the ocean's gifts.

Treating Coral Reef Wounds

The patient stepped on coral, which can be quite hazardous. Coral cuts can be deceptive - they often look superficial but can lead to serious infections due to the bacteria present on the coral and in the sea water. In this case, we administered a combination of Ceftriaxone and Cephalexin, powerful antibiotics that are effective in treating these types of bacterial infections.

When to Seek Medical Attention

If you ever step on coral, here's what you need to know:

  1. Immediate Care: Rinse the wound with fresh water, remove any visible debris, and apply an antiseptic.

  2. Monitor for Infection: Watch for signs of infection like redness, swelling, or pus.

  3. Visit Central Health: If you notice any signs of infection or if the wound is deep, it’s important to visit our clinic. We can assess the injury, clean it properly, and prescribe the right antibiotics if needed.

  4. ER Visit: For severe injuries, such as deep lacerations, or if you have underlying health conditions that put you at greater risk, head straight to the emergency room.

Balancing Passions with Health and Wellness

As we embrace our passions, whether it's surfing or other activities, it's vital to maintain a balance with our health and wellness. Injuries can happen, but with the right knowledge and precautions, we can enjoy our hobbies while keeping our health in check.

Exciting Developments at Central Health

Looking ahead, Central Health is expanding! We're not just growing our physical space but also introducing new services to cater to your diverse healthcare needs. Rest assured, despite our growth, we remain committed to our family-oriented values and providing personalized care.
